Dragon Boat Races Raises Over £1500!

10363508_649136635161780_5877099249789163767_nOn Sunday 8th June 17 willing volunteers took to the water in a Dragon Boat and rowed in the Race the Dragon Regatta 2014 in Worcester on behalf on the Heart of England Animals Asia Support Group and raised an incredible £1,500 in aid of Animals Asia.

Dragon Boat Races are incredible fun! 16 paddlers and 1 drummer row together with the help of an event official helmsman, taking part in at least 3 races throughout the day to try and achieve the winning title! Team members pledged to raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship per person in an aim to raise at least £850 for the important Nanning Rescue! Racers wore matching “Moon Bear Paddlers” t-shirts and comical bear ears during the races

10398044_649136758495101_2335237437987896910_nAfter a slow start and a bit of a boat re-shuffle, we finally came into our own and won 2 out of our 3 races. We came 11th in the Plate Competition and placed 20th out of 28 boats on the day – but considering none of us had got into a boat together before, we felt we did incredibly well. Most importantly, we had a great day! Lots of fun, laughs, and together we raised over £1,500 in sponsorship!! Which will go incredible lengths to help the bears of Nanning!

Well done to everyone who took part; Cat, Gavin, Aly, Scott, Judy, Chris, Gail, Tony, Claudia, Luke, Steven, Katie, Shaun, Michael, Annie, Kevin and Leigh and thank you to all those who came to support us!
